Review highlights
Based on 6,174 reviewsPublic reviews of Pandamaran: Choon Guan Hainan Coffee 1956 in Port Klang highlight a strong sense of nostalgia connected to its traditional Hainanese coffee and toast, evoking memories of simpler times. The restaurant’s expanded menu offers a variety of flavorful Asian comfort foods, including curry mee and chicken rice, which are generally praised for their authentic taste and satisfying quality. The establishment is noted for its clean, well-maintained environment and pleasant, open-air setting that remains comfortable even in warm weather. Reasonable pricing and attentive service contribute to a positive overall dining experience. Minor feedback suggests slight adjustments in seasoning on some dishes, yet this does not significantly detract from the well-regarded traditional atmosphere and consistently enjoyable food at this longstanding local kopitiam.
Have not visited this place for over 40 years. Came back today and can still reminance the good old days when mu dad took me here for the simple Hainanese coffee and toast bread. The coffee and toast bread took me back to the good old days. Their food range has been expended. Tried their curry mee and mee siam where both are really nice. The gravy of the curry mee is thick with a bit of nice sourish taste. The mee siam is plain but has nice aromatic sourish flavour I like from a proper mee siam. Will surely frequent this shop more. Went back the following week for their black pepper chicken that was a bit on the salty side. Other than that, the chicken is crispy on the outside and tender inside. The only thing I don't like is this place is the market in front and at time, there is certain smell coming from wind blown from that direction. Better to be seated further inside at the shop.
What an amazing find. This is a must see experience. Traditional breakfast and other tasty dishes on the menu. Definitely recommend trying this place. Great host and terrific service.
5/5 Hainanese comfort food done right! Chicken rice was flavourful, chicken chop hit all the nostalgic notes. Simple, satisfying, no regrets. Will be back!
The environment here is open, well-ventilated, and surprisingly comfortable even under the hot sun. The prices are reasonable too, making it a good spot for a casual meal. However, the mee siam was a bit too salty for my liking — it would be perfect if the saltiness could be reduced. Overall, still a pleasant experience!
Old-style kopitiam ala-ala kampung, a good name for this restaurant. There are many menus from breakfast to evening with a good taste and delicious. The restaurant environment is clean and tidy. The toilets are very clean and nice, like 5 stars.
Love it here. High ceiling and spacious dining. Open concept surrounded with potted plants. It is very innovative to use the plants to hang table numbers. We queued about 10 minutes to place orders at the cashier. Huge banners with pictures of their menu were hung as wall decors, which made ordering easier. Food was served within minutes. All the food was delicious and great plating. Curry puff pastry was crispy and fillings were flavourful. Hainan chicken rice were moist tasty balls with tender, smooth steamed chicken and spicy chilli sauce. Kaya toast bread was crisp but not warm enough to melt the butter. Nice tender rendang chicken nasi lemak with fluffy rice. Half boiled eggs were perfectly done. Hainanese chicken chop brown sauce was with the right consistency...thick but not too starchy. Teh tarik and coffee were strong and not too sweet, as per request. Service was great. Staff were friendly and well mannered. Only complaint is the toilets need to be renovated to accommodate older folks. Squat toilets with 2 big steps up are not convenient.
I dined in this halal-certified restaurant several times and sometimes tapau food. My favourite is the kampung chicken rice. Rice balls also good. Rice has flavour and the poached chicken is tender and juicy. The Hainanese bread and butter, coffee suits my taste buds. Sweetness of drinks, custard pudding is just nice. The curry noodles is not my preference as the broth too thick. The Hainanese Chicken Chop is mediocre. Price is a bit high (RM19.90), not Klang standards Hope they can lower the price. Price on other food and snacks is acceptable. The portion of food is quite generous whereas some are decent. Staff service is commendable.
